The most important tip is to be prepared for your backcountry skiing adventure. To be fully prepared, you will need to check out the avalanche report for the area you plan to ski in, and you will also need to know how to read it. This is where a guide could come in handy. You should also carry avalanche safety gear with you just in case.
Tip #2 – Carry Your Goggles in Your Jacket
People who are new to backcountry skiing often make the mistake of hiking with their goggles all the way up on their foreheads. It won’t be long on the trail until those goggles will get fogged up. The best place to carry your goggles is the goggle pocket inside your jacket.
Tip #3 – Bring an Energy Bar with You
With all the energy you expend while you are backcountry skiing, you will need to replenish it somehow. Bring an energy bar with you to help you on your journey. In order to make sure your energy bar does not get frozen, keep it inside your glove and place it along your wrist. Once you reach the top of the mountain and decide to replenish your energy, you can bite into the bar without chipping your teeth on a frozen energy bar.
