A via ferrata (meaning “iron path”) is the name for a special, protected climbing route. There are various via ferratas all over the world, including in Telluride, Colorado. Climbing a via ferrata is an exciting adventure; and is something that can be done by those at all different skill levels.
Preparing for Your Via Ferrata Adventure
As you prepare for your via ferrata adventure in Telluride, there are a few important things to keep in mind. First, you will need to decide if you are embarking on your adventure solo, or with a group. Your Telluride Adventure will be exciting whether you go alone or with a group, and we have tours available for either option, so your plan is entirely up to you.
Next, you will want to consider using an adventure guide for your trip. An adventure guide will help you and the others in your group as you climb the via ferrata, providing encouragement and helpful advice. Many guides are also trained in basic first aid, so having an adventure guide come with you can be beneficial just in case you or someone in your group suffers a minor injury during your adventure. At Telluride Adventures your safety is our priority, therefore all of our guides have at least a Wildness First Responder (WFR) and CPR training, not just basic first aid.
Another thing you should do to prepare for your via ferrata adventure is to make sure that you have all of the necessary equipment. The equipment you will need includes what is called the via ferrata set. This set has a lanyard and two carabiners, in a “Y” tape configuration. This set works as an energy-absorption system, which will help you stay safe in the event that you fall. You will also want to bring along water or snacks, especially if you plan to have a long adventure.
Telluride Adventures supplies all needed technical climbing equipment and a full lunch on full day adventures.
